KhromaKon’s all-volunteer staff runs the convention during the event and helps out year-round.

KhromaKon Staff Policies
KhromaKon 2024 Staff COVID-19 Policy
For KhromaKon 2024, masks are optional for all individuals, including staff, unless approaching guests. While we strongly encouraged all staff to be vaccinated appropriately and boosted, we will not require staff to show proof of vaccination. We will update you with new information if the situation changes between now and the convention.
General Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have reliable transportation.
- Provide at least 2 references.
- It is highly recommended that the applicant has attended or staffed a convention before to be familiar with convention activities.
Professionalism
- Uphold a positive, mature, and professional image of KhromaKon at all times.
- When representing KhromaKon online via message posting and email, write messages as professionally and warmly as possible, with minimal netspeak.
- Be respectful and courteous to venue staff, convention attendees, guests, vendors, artists, and other KhromaKon staff members.
- Work with other volunteer staff as a team while having the flexibility to work independently. Be willing to receive constructive criticism and incorporate approved changes.
- Quickly resolve departmental problems, seeking help from other staff members when necessary. Grievances that cannot be resolved within the department may be brought to your division head or the con chair.
- Grievances should be handled directly with the affected person and never in a public forum.
Confidentiality
Treat information garnered from KhromaKon staff members, staff lists, or staff forums as confidential unless that information has been evaluated and cleared for public consumption by the KhromaKon chair(s).
Participation
- Check e-mail regularly and reply to all inquiries promptly.
- Complete the Hotel Planning form on time. Failure to complete this form by the deadline may result in loss of staff status.
- Actively participate in online staff discussions via the staff Discord and Facebook groups.
- Regularly attend online staff meetings.
Working at the Convention
- All staff members are expected to work at the convention (unless they cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances or a position clearly identified as purely off-site/pre-convention).
- KhromaKon relies on all of its staff to make the convention a success. Failure to show up to work at the convention without notification to one’s Department Head will result in a minimum one-year suspension from KhromaKon Staff status. (Exceptions due to severe extenuating circumstances will be evaluated case-by-case.)
- Follow directions given by one’s Department Head.
- Familiarize yourself with other staff members, protocols, convention rules, scheduled events, and the convention floor layout.
- Be on time for shifts.
- Do not leave an assigned post without alerting one’s Department Head.
Enforcing the Rules
- If you notice a convention attendee breaking a rule, ask courteously that they cease the behavior.
- If the attendee does not cooperate, alert Convention Safety immediately and provide a detailed description of the offenders and their offenses.
- When dealing with highly uncooperative people do not physically touch them or any items in their possession. Alert Convention Safety immediately and provide a detailed description of the offenders and their offenses.
Behavior Toward Guests of Honor
- Behave politely and in a friendly manner toward guests.
- Be helpful to guests or direct them to who can help them if you cannot assist them.
- Help make sure attendees behave respectfully towards guests.
- A KhromaKon staff member will not:
- Give drugs or alcohol to a guest.
- Participate in any conduct with a guest that would give the convention and its staff a bad reputation (i.e., nudity, law-breaking, sexual conduct, etc.)
- Be rude to, unhelpful to, or physically harm a guest.
We are currently looking for staff for all our departments; however, the following departments have specialized requirements: Special Events and Hospitality & Guest Relations.
Special Events:
- Preferred Requirements:
- Experience working with large crowds.
- Must be 21 and older.
- Must be a team player.
- Duties include:
- Assisting in the setup and breakdown of event space.
- Assisting in the room clear of special events areas.
Hospitality & Guest Relations:
- Preferred Requirements:
- Hospitality or Personal Assistant background is highly preferred.
- Having a friendly and professional demeanor is a must.
- Experience with crowd control is a plus.
- Experience in being a handler is a plus.
- Duties include:
- Assisting with Special Guests and ensuring they are at the correct areas on time.
- Maintaining the Special Guest area between guests.
- Ensuring that all autograph/meet and greet spaces have proper crowd control.
- Being the designated point of contact between your assigned guest and the Department Head.
For departments that do not have particular requirements to apply, these are the general duties for all other departments:
- Marketplace
- Assisting vendors in the dock area with loading and unloading.
- Assuring that all vendors and attendees are being safe while during opening hours.
- Maintain crowd control at the entrance and exits.
- Ensure that attendees present badges upon entry to the Marketplace space.
- Programming
- Assist with room clears.
- Handle media that will be screened in panel rooms.
- Maintain crowd control for panel room lineups.
- Ensuring that panel rooms maintain capacity levels throughout panels.
- Sign in presenters and panelists when they arrive at their assigned room.
- Give panelists cues about when they are approaching their assigned end time.
- Registration
- Assist in checking in guests, panelists, vendors, and attendees.
- Handle transactions of pre-registered badges and confirm the ages of attendees.
- Handle issuing 18+ wristbands.
- Con Ops
- Assist Con Head in designated duties to ensure the smoothoperation of the convention.
- Staff Ops
- Assist with the check-in and check-out of staff for appropriate shifts.
- Assist with meal vouchers and/or lunch orders for staff.
- Maintain equipment that is needed by staff to run their shift appropriately.
